The arrivalof herrings
November is the time of year when the historic village of Clovelly traditionally sees the arrival of herrings around the small fishing harbour. The village has always depended on the harvest of herring, with fishing records going back over 400 years.
Those days of massive catches are long gone but with two herring fishermen using sustainable fishing methods, the herring heritage continues which is why the Herring Festival is a celebration of the fish.
On the quay, kitchens will serve a variety of delicious herring specialities along with beer tastings, local food and craft stalls. There will also be live music, street entertainers, face-painting and an exhibition of Clovelly herring fishing.
Sustainable Fish education will have tasters and information on cooking herrings and information on their current projects.
