Top spots for a picnic in North Devon
To celebrate #NationalPicnicWeek, we thought it would be fun to showcase some of the beautiful spaces around North Devon which make perfect spots to enjoy a bite to eat. So dig out the old picnic basket, get your favourite snacks packed, and head to your favourite north Devon location.
Rock Park, Barnstaple
Visitors of all ages can take a break from the rest of the world in the delightful surroundings of Rock Park, directly opposite our hotel and enjoy a picnic in the family-friendly environment. With a park for children & kiosk for drinks and snacks, Rock Park is always a winner when it comes to family picnics.
Take a romantic stroll and set up your picnic at dusk and watch the glorious colours across a scene of bobbing boats at the mouth of the estuary. Instow beach is one of the best beaches to view the sunset in North Devon, and it’s ideally located on the Tarka Trail so you can pair your picnic with an evening cycle around North Devon.
A meander along Northam Burrows will lead you to grassy patches amid the wildlife, where you can pull out the blanket and set up to enjoy your picnic in utter peace away from the hustle and bustle of the busier parks and beaches. It’s also very closely located to Westward Ho!, one of the most popular beaches for picnics in the area.
Set in the West Exmoor coast, Heddon Valley provides a romantic landscape to sit back and relax. Either stay by the river near the car park, or wander to the beach on an easy walk to Heddon's Mouth.
Barricane Beach, Woolacombe
Set up your picnic amongst the sand dunes and if you fancy a surf before you eat, Barricane is one of your best bets. Slightly secluded, the beach is located in a beautiful, rocky cove.
