Lynmouth Raft Race 2019
What happens when you combine dozens of handmade raft boats, fancy dress, flour bombs and the sea? It's Lynmouth Raft Race of course!
It's a frantic battle to the buoy and back, but not all make it. The spectators are armed with flour bombs too, for guaranteed hilarity and laughter during this longstanding annual traditional event.
The rafts gather at Lynmouth coach park before being paraded through Lynmouth to the sea and the starting line. Once in place, raft members are pelted with the flour bombs as the race begins.
The route is down the River Lyn into the Bristol Channel, approximately 500/600 yards and back
Winners come in several categories, with awards presented for the first raft to finish, the best constructed raft, the best-dressed raft and the highest sponsored crew. Plus a booby prize is awarded for the first to sink - which everyone will be hoping to avoid.
This is a free event to witness and will be a fun couple of hours in the evening, watching the hilarity unfold.
